There are three major concerns with PVC (vinyl) products:

• Eventually PVC (vinyl) products need to be disposed of. When they are incinerated, they may release emissions such as, hydrogen chloride, chlorobenzene, chloromethane, and dioxins into the atmosphere.

• DEHP,a phthalate plasticizer used to soften PVC, may leach from PVC and may have links to reproductive birth defects and other harmful effects, according to animal studies.

• Landfill not be a good option for PVC (vinyl) products either as they can contain additives, such as biocides, lubricants and toxic heavy metal stabilizers which can potentially leach into the ground water. Also, landfill fires can result in the air pollution issue sited above.
